The 15th Gen KS Thimayya Memorial Lecture

The 15th Gen KS Thimayya Memorial Lecture is scheduled to be held on Saturday 9 November, 2019 at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School Auditorium at 09.45 am, followed by high tea.

Our speaker is Dilip Jajodia (1961, PE), Managing Director – British Cricket Balls Limited. Dilip’s company manufactures the world famous Duke’s cricket ball, which traces its origins to 1760.

The Gen KS Thimayya Medal 2019 will be awarded posthumously to Lt Gen Jameel Mahmood, UYSM (1953).

“The Timbaktu Story” by C K ‘Bablu’ Ganguly (1973, EL) 

Inspired by ‘JP’ and Fukuoka and driven by developmental and theatre activism, Bablu co-founded the ‘Timbaktu Collective’ in 1990. It has since enhanced livelihood opportunities for marginalised sections by regenerating and reviving the local economy and ecology. Bablu is an Ashoka Fellow, 1993 and an Old Cottonian of the ’73 vintage.

The Gen Thimayya Medal for 2017 was awarded to Shahu Chhatrapati (1963, Elphick House)

Academia at Crossroads: Finding and Fostering Creativity – Dr Rahul Rao & Rohan Murty

This year saw two young speakers- Dr. Rahul Rao, Senior Lecturer in Politics SOAS, University of London and Old Cottonian from the 1996 batch and Dr. Rohan Narayana Murty, Junior Fellow, Society of Fellows, Harvard University and Old Cottonian from the 2001 batch- expound on the topic “Academia at Crossroads: Finding and Fostering Creativity”. Given their diverse academic backgrounds the speakers held forth on the subject from differing perspectives but the common theme was despite seeming odds against it was possible to foster creativity in the academia.
